Winery

Our philosophy

In our winery, we strictly adhere to the philosophy of the VDP classification, which we have been implementing in collaboration with our VDP colleagues since 2012. We place a high value on ensuring that even our VDP.GUTSWEINE (estate wines) are well-structured and full-bodied. For our VDP.ORTSWEINE (local wines), VDP.ERSTE LAGE® (first growth), and VDP.GROSSE LAGE® (grand cru) wines, we aim to produce wines that exhibit a distinct character compared to others. This sometimes means that in certain years, we may not produce wines with specific vineyard designations from certain locations.

In particular, we produce late harvests and select harvests, as well as higher quality levels such as Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen, only when the grape material meets the standards necessary to produce intense and full-bodied wines, including dry single vineyard wines.

Since the 2021 vintage, we have been fully transitioning to certified organic viticulture. This means we no longer use chemical pesticides and aim to work more in harmony with nature. This initiative is a significant commitment of our young winery team. As part of this effort, since spring 2022, we have introduced a flock of sheep - the knypSCHAFE - who work in our vineyards in line with principles of biodiversity and biodynamic cycles. Their tasks include acting as natural lawnmowers, clearing the understory, and contributing to soil fertilization. They help manage weeds, shoot growth, and leaf cover around the grape zones, improving airflow within the canopy and directly enhancing grape quality. As a positive side effect, our animal team reduces tractor passes, benefiting soil health and promoting a more sustainable vineyard ecosystem, which forms the foundation of our work.

Since 1818

We place great emphasis on ensuring the highest quality wine enjoyment at every level. Specifically in our base range, which serves as our own business card to customers, we focus on producing aromatic and structured wines.

If a batch does not meet our standards, we prefer to sell the wine rather than compromise.

In the category of Erste Lage (first growth) and Große Lage (grand cru), we ensure the optimal development of our grapes and wines through rigorous yield reduction and meticulous grape selection. This results in complex and long-lasting wines.

Our wines are strictly produced according to VDP rules and marketed in accordance with VDP classification.
