Baron zu Knyphausen owns and manages the estate in the seventh generation. Together with their young winemaker Rainer Rüttiger, they focus on growing the traditional Rheingau varieties Riesling (96%) and Pinot Noir (4%) in top vineyard sites. The total acreage of the estate is 22 hectares (56 acres).
Special emphasis is put on typical Rheingau Riesling which produces full-bodied wines with a distinctive dry taste and a fruity bouquet. These wines take their time for development and maturing in barrel and bottles thus assuring great longevity.
65% of the wines produced are "trocken" (very dry) and "feinherb"
(dry) and 35% are fruity, classical style and noble sweet wines. The
annual production is about 130 000 bottles or 11 000 cases and yields
are restricted to 75hl/ha.
The estate belongs to the association VDP and CHARTA-Estates who commit
themselves to the production of traditional Rheingau Riesling wines.
Honoring the art of winemaking, the famous German artist Vollrad Kutscher created a "wine totem", a totem pole displaying the twelve month of work in the vineyards, which is exhibited in the estate courtyard.
